SNEHALAYA PSYCHO SOCIAL CENTRE FOR WOMEN

Providing a shelter home for men was a dream come true for Joseph. During these 8 long years, while rescuing several men the sight of a few ladies, and young girls in public places were disheartening. Many of them were found prey for abuse. These destitute women had no shelter home and those few existing homes were full. Having seen the situation of these ladies Snehalaya seriously thought of starting a home for the women.

But the funds, resources, and manpower were a challenge. Handling ladies needed expert professional workers. The whole plan was placed at the altar and surrendered to God, if it was his plan, to show us a way. God did hear the prayer and a corpus fund of 3.5 crores was released for the project. In a matter of 1 year, a facility equipped with all modern amenities measuring about 15,000 sq. ft. was raised adjacent to the Men's Rehabilitation Centre.

The project was completed and inaugurated on 26th January 2019 by eminent personality Mr. Michael D'Souza, in the presence of Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore and Bishop Ignatius D'Souza, Diocese of Bareilly. The centre can accommodate about 100 women at a time and now there are about 75 women from all walks of life sheltered here. Many of the women have recovered and returned to their families. A clean homely ambiance, motherly care, hygienic food, timely medication, and the love showered on them have helped them recover which was possible only through the mighty blessings of the Almighty. We strongly believe that we provide facilities but the cure is done only through HIM. The counselors reach out to each patient individually and understand the thought processes and hazardous circumstances which the inmate faces. They also tabulate what trauma the inmates have passed. In this stage, the counselor encourages the inmate to introspect themselves and make them aware of the importance of life and how to overcome the circumstance by introducing life skills in motivating, supporting, and redressing their grievances.
