HOUSING PROJECTS OF SNEHALAYA

The COVID-19 pandemic had opened up a new avenue to carry on another challenging mission for Snehalaya. Our volunteers identified a few houses in different places in their worst condition. Construction of houses for the needy with the help of our kind-hearted donors began in March 2020. The first project is of Mr. Leo D'Cunha of Madanthyar whose house was in a skeletal form. He is a gangrene patient and has a teenage daughter.

The house was completed in the first week of June and the family has moved into their new home. The second project is of Mr. Nonayya Poojary aged over 70 at Kuvettu gram panchayat area near Maddadka, Belthangady. He has a deaf and dumb daughter who has been deserted by her husband. She is having two children studying in Grade 3 & Grade 5 respectively. The roof of the house is completely covered with plastic and sacks. The project was completed by June end and the family is extremely happy to see their renovated house. The third project taken up by Snehalaya was at Agrar in Bantwal Taluk. Eliza Menezes is a widow who has lost her two children, and the third one is addicted to alcohol. She was suffering from fourth-stage cancer. She has a cousin’s sister who is mentally ill and is dependent on her. The 60-year-old house with mud walls was on the verge of collapse and the roof was partially covered with plastic. Here Snehalaya's intervention was required on multiple things. Eliza Menezes was first relocated to Ave Maria Palliative Care Centre, she died after 20 days. Her son and cousin were rehabilitated temporarily at Snehalaya and the construction of their house was completed in just 60 days and the house has become a home. Till December 2022 Snehalaya has completed 16 houses for the deserving, irrespective of caste, creed & religion, or region. Several such deserving families have applied for assistance. Our purpose is to reach out to the needy and make a difference. The kind-hearted donors have been a great support to social outreach programs.
